Southern Culinary Traditions
For those of us lucky enough to grow up in a household of traditional Sunday meals, a meat and three menu brings back memories that condor up all of the senses. The deliciousness of collard greens and cornbread that only “Grandmama” could make is a southern rite of passage. When people move to the south from other areas a “Meat & Three” resturant needs to be explained but to true southerns it means stepping into “Grandmama’s” kitchen.
Sports Break offers the experience of southern memories by offering their “Meat & Three” menu daily for lunch. The same love that “Grandmama” put into her Sunday cooking is what the chefs at Sports Break do daily for their customers.
Take a step into southern culinary history and try Sports Break “Meat and Three Traditions” like fried chicken, hamburger steak, creamed corn and of course macaroni and cheese!
Do you like good live music? We sure do! And what better place to hear live music than at Sports Break?!
Sports Break has been hosting great nightlife in Greenwood for 25 years. So we do not expect anything but the best, right? Well of course! Sports Break pulls out the big guns by bringing in AMAZING bands! Groups are splashing on the stage every week for a great, fun, upbeat atmosphere!
So many great bands of all different genres over the years have performed at Sports Break! Some of the bands are even making it big! Recently, Sports Break hosted FIVE 40, a great Reggae/Rock band from Atlanta, GA. Also DJ Arley for a fresh funky sound. We cannot forget a hometown favorite, the Jake Bartley Band, and so many more amazing groups. Sports Break has also featured Outshyne. They are a band out of the Palmetto State and they are becoming a prime time group in the country music world. Outshyne’s future is bright with their new song “Night with Your Name on It” hitting the radio after “Moonlight Crush” hit #1 on XM Radio. They have opened up shows for county stars like Lee Brice, Jake Owen and Eric Church just to name a few and have performed at the Country Musical Festival (CMA Fest) in Nashville.
So to say the least, Sports Break is killing the band game and bringing in nothing but the ABSOLUTE BEST! Keep up with featured bands and upcoming events at Sports Break by liking our Facebook page or by checking our calendar. You are not gonna want to miss any of these bands! Come join us!
Want to know a little secret? Sports Break has Executive Chefs whipping up great meals everyday! Bet you did not see that coming. Meet Don Marino
Don Marino- Sports Break Executive Chef & Kitchen Manager
Don has been employed at Sports Break for eight years. His favorite comfort food is meatloaf. When asked if diners can expect seasonal specials, Don said that there are different weekly chef’s salad specials along with other fantastic lighter fare for the summertime. Don also said that Sports Break uses local ingredients including produce and meats. The lunchtime vegetable sides are locally grown. “Our collards come from Walter P. Rawl in Pelion, many of our beans and peas are from Margeret Holmes in the Florence area, and we use South Carolina shrimp and chicken.” He also announced that Sports Break is now introducing a LATE NIGHT MENU!! A combination of nearly 20 menu ideas available until 1am Thursday through Saturday evenings. If Don had to recommend one menu item, he would choose the Whiskey River Wrap. Of course, being the Executive Chef means not being able to truly choose just one favorite. “Our wings are great and you can’t go wrong with the Pimento Cheese Hush Puppies or Breakfast Burger!”
Sports Break rose from the ashes and re-opened on August 22, 2014. Now we have a brand new web site, too! So check us out and then let us know what you think! We can’t wait to see and hear from you!
